50KB is a strict target — here's the honest approach
50 KB is small. A modern phone photo is often 3–6 MB, so reaching 50 KB means shedding well over 98% of the file. Quality alone can't always do that on a full-resolution image without turning a face blurry. The reliable method has two steps, and most "compress to 50 KB" tools skip the first one:
- Resize the dimensions first. For a form or ID photo, around 600px on the longest side is plenty. This is the single biggest lever — halving the width roughly quarters the pixel count.
- Then compress to 50 KB. With the dimensions reduced, the compressor can reach 50 KB while keeping the photo recognisable.
