What is an IP address?
An IP (Internet Protocol) address is a unique number assigned to every device connected to the internet. It tells other computers where to send data so you can browse websites, send emails, and stream videos. Your ISP assigns your public IP address, which can change periodically (dynamic IP) or stay fixed (static IP).
Why check your IP?
Common reasons include verifying your VPN is working (your IP should show the VPN server's location, not yours), troubleshooting network issues, setting up remote access, and configuring firewalls.
